642 Things to Write About: Week 4/52

Describe Your Next Kiss

It's your birthday,
a quarter of your life passed,
but hopefully
not yet a quarter of our time together.
Our next kiss probably won't be
as memorable as our first,
but the sum of our next kisses
will sustain our times together,
and apart,
and will be the stuff of our own fairy tale.

Yarn Along

Happy Wednesday and Happy Yarn Along Day! Linking up with Ginny from Small Things :)

This is the Keep It Casual cowl, and although I was skeptical of the pattern as I was working on it, I love the way this cowl turned out. I used it the night I finished it--it was the perfect cowl to wear around my neck over my jacket while I was out in the cold, and then it was perfect to pull over my bare shoulders once I was inside.

Overall, I couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome.

Lots of Links

There were quite a few articles that I read this week that I want to be able to keep track of and potentially re-read. So I figured what better place to save them than in a blog post.

Hope your weekend was wonderful :)

When You're at the Crossroads of Should and Must

The Hermione Granger Series

Ever look at other peoples' relationships and think that everything is perfect? Every relationship has faults, and that's okay.

A map of an introvert's heart. This is pretty accurate. Although, I'm actually not a big fan of self-checkout lines.

And in case you missed it, I've been keeping up with the 15 things I want to do in 2015, and I recorded my first YouTube cover of the year :)

A cup of tea, earl grey, hot. Prayerful knitting. Flannel. Crocheted blankets. Red wine, cabernet. Reading a good book on the couch by the window. Ricotta pancakes. External validation. Self validation. Kitty snuggles and purrs. Acoustic music. Boyfriend bear hugs. Journaling. Fate. Bird song. Live plants and flowers. Ceiling fans. The color blue.

Yarn Along

Happy Wednesday and Happy Yarn Along Day! Linking up with Ginny from Small Things :)

Every Christmas, my sisters and I do a Secret Santa gift exchange because there's just too many of us to give gifts that are meaningful. This Christmas, I had my sister Erin, and I knew that I wanted to crochet her a scarf as part of her gift.

Erin has three kids and I thought it would be a great idea to use the birthstone colors of her children as the color palette for the scarf. The birthstones are diamond, topaz, and aquamarine, and I loved how these colors worked together. The pattern I came up with on my own, but I knew I wanted to create something light with a lot of drape.

Like most of my projects, I wanted to keep it for myself, but it's inspired me to make more.

642 Things to Write About: Week 1/52

A Recipe for Beat(nik) Soup

On the road
we find remnants of a generation,
a dash of Kerouac,
a sliver of Ginsberg,
a recipe for our own personal love story--
cross country, cross time,
but time well spent,
as we discover new meanings minced out of old words,
writing familiar beatitudes on each other's skin
and highlighting the infinite circle
of life and mistakes
and of blessings
that are the pieces of us,
us coming in full
to what it means to have lived
and how life moves without having moved.

On My Bookshelf: January

Setting a goal of reading 30 books last year worked out pretty well for me. I actually read 34, and I love using Goodreads to track my reading. This year, I am once again planning to read 30 books, and these are the ones I plan to start with:

Catch Me If You Can by Frank W. Abagnale, Jr.
I've seen the Leonardo Dicaprio movie adaptation of this book and absolutely loved it, so I knew this memoir of sorts would be right up my alley. I imagine if the book is anything like the movie, then I'm going to love it.

Atonement by Ian McEwan
I'll be honest and say that I'm not sure if I'm going to make it through this book. I haven't started it yet, but I know from having seen the movie that it's going to be a difficult read. I felt really wishy-washy about the movie, but since the book is so acclaimed, I want to give it a shot.
